It has long been involved in a multidisciplinary approach to endemic and epidemic infectious diseases (HIV, tuberculosis, neglected tropical diseases), mainly in West and Central Africa and South-East Asia. The Ebola epidemic of 2014-16 in West Africa, then in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in 2018, led the unit to develop research projects on emerging diseases in Guinea, then in the DRC.The Unit approach combines virology, medical sciences, public health and social sciences, and this enables it to engage in multidisciplinary research programmes. The unit has recently obtained several grants for interdisciplinary research projects with major implications for the social sciences. The unit comprises three teams, including one devoted to local cultures and global health. An attractive missionThe TICKRISK: co-developing preparedness project is led by Tamara Giles-Vernick at the Institut Pasteur and brings together a number of partners, including the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, the University of Bordeaux, the Institut National de Recherche pour l'Agriculture, l'Alimentation et l'Environnement, the Institut Français d'études anatoliennes (CNRS) and the École Normale Supérieur de Lyon (ENS).This study examines the comparative production, translation and public interpretation of scientific knowledge about the Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) virus in France, Spain, Romania and Turkey. TICKRISK brings together anthropologists, historians, a political scientist, tick specialists, social epidemiologists, virologists/clinicians and a citizen science programme. Our main objective is to learn by comparing these countries and to develop health education and risk communication tools adapted to prepare for and prevent epidemics. The IRD, under the supervision of Almudena Mari Saez, will investigate the production of scientific knowledge on the vectors of CCHFv, the translation of gaps into a surveillance, preparedness and response policy for CCHFv, and local experiences among the public and professional groups concerning ticks, wild and domestic animals, and CCHF in Spain.Your activities will include
