Essential Duties1. Responsible for staffing and services in the following areas: circulation, course reserves (electronic and print), resource sharing, collection maintenance, and borrowing privileges. 2. Participates in hiring, training, coaching, and evaluating the work of access services staff members. 3. Participates in planning and implementing new services and supporting and improving existing services. 4. Responsible for ensuring consistency in service quality, policy interpretation, and following procedures. 5. Works with other units that support library operations, such as technical services, collection development, and security. 6. Participates in departmental library access services program planning. 7. Participates in library system-wide planning, committees, and work groups, and engages in campus, regional, and national professional organizations and collaborative activities. Participates in professional activities outside of Yale and monitors developments and best practices elsewhere to help ensure the excellence of the Law Library's collections and research support services. 8. May be required to assist with disaster recovery efforts. 9. Candidates with JD degrees may participate in legal research instruction. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.Required Education and ExperienceMaster's degree from an ALA-accredited library school. Effective managerial, problem-solving, and project management skills. Familiarity and utility with new and emerging technologies. Superior communication and interpersonal skills. The individual in this role also contributes to the law library's strategic mission by facilitating and promoting the provision of dynamic public services to library patrons. A significant immediate responsibility for this position will involve participation in the planning and successful migration from the law library's current ILS, Sierra, to the Alma ILS platform in a shared environment with the University Library. The Head of Access Services may also participate with other librarians in first year legal research instruction.This position will be assigned the rank of Librarian 1 to 3 based on a combination of professional experience and qualifications.
