We recognize our most valuable assets are our staff and are committed to providing our employees with the tools, training and mentorships necessary to achieve their career goals.Program and position summaryThe Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI) has designed a program called “Agriculture-focused Dignified Employment for Youth in Ethiopia” (ADEY) to address youth and women unemployment rate and increase the participation of young people in the labor market, particularly in the agriculture sector. ATI has mainstreamed youth employment, gender equality, climate-smart, and nutrition-sensitive agriculture in all its programs and projects with the primary objectives of increased access to sustainable and inclusive job opportunities for youth, inclusivity, and the sustainable use of natural resources while building resilience capacities to shocks at all levels.ATI, among others, currently works with more than 3 million smallholder farmers (540,300 are women and youth) engaged in the Agricultural Commercialization Clusters (ACC) and digital agriculture programs designed to improve smallholder farmers' production and productivity while supporting other actors along the value chain. Taking ATI's reputable experience, ADEY program is designed to create inclusive and dignified work opportunities in ACC regions and Somali for over six hundred thousand youths. The program will focus on several streams such as agriculture and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to strengthen access to agricultural input and output markets and finance; improve the competitiveness of youth-owned MSMEs through capacity-building activities; enhance the skills and mindsets of young women and men through technical and business skill development and create an enabling environment for work opportunities through policy interventions. ADEY will operate along the commodity value chain, largely using ACC infrastructures and complement the different ACC outcomes in general and outcome four in particular.The Entrepreneurship Team Lead – Livestock is responsible for coordinating and implementing livestock related interventions planned in ADEY program at federal and regional level with high quality and in a timely manner. He/she will be responsible to guide, manage, coach and mentor ADEY staff implementing livestock interventions at all levels. The Entrepreneurship Team Lead – Livestock is also responsible for overseeing livestock related ADEY interventions implemented by partners at regional level.He/she will report to ADEY Deputy Director technically and administratively, and matrix reporting to Livestock Director at the head office. He/she will closely work with all ACC, Digital Agriculture and Operation vertical teams at the head office and with ADEY regional managers. Besides, He/she will closely work with key stakeholders at federal and regional levels.Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversee livestock value chain development activities ensuring that staff are following work plans, activities are on schedule to the highest standard, and that project deliverables are completed as planned.
  • Coordinate, plan, and implement livestock component of ADEY interventions based on the proposal submitted to the Foundation and initiate innovative interventions that contribute to the objective of the program as required.
  • Ensure that prioritized livestock interventions are delivered effectively, and targets and outputs are achieved successfully.
  • Manage and lead problem solving sessions, provide high caliber support to team members and ensure team alignment, coordination, and build high performance culture and delivery on priority objectives.
  • Closely follow-up with implementing partners (subgrants) for the proper implementation of technical and financial matters.
  • Supervise and manage technical team for effective and efficient implementation of prioritized interventions and achieving common goal.
  • Support technical team on the preparation of annual work plans and budgets, establishing performance objectives and standards, and ensuring timely and appropriate feedback, guidance, and support for optimum performance.
  • Monitor the progress and evaluate performance of livestock interventions at federal and regional levels.
  • Closely work with livestock program and ensure that the outputs and outcomes of the interventions contribute to ATIs common goals.
  • Compile and submit procurement plan and ensure that procurement is completed timely.
  • Compile, review, and share reports in a timely manner (monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually).
  • Support federal and regional teams in facilitating and documenting learning events, particularly in terms of lessons learned and best practices, for experience sharing and scaling.
  • Engage livestock program of the ATI to leverage its experience on commodity value chain development, commercialization of livestock sector, and job creation across the regions.
  • Organize stakeholder meetings and workshops, value chain alliance platforms and related activities and prepare and present high-quality materials as needed to expand the outreach and advocacy.
Required Qualification, Competencies, and Experience
  • Minimum Master's Degree in livestock production, animal sciences, livestock value chain, and other related fields.
  • AT least 10 years of relevant experience in implementing donor-supported projects at the regional or national level of which a minimum of three years' experience in leading the project.
  • Experience in designing, implementing and leading youth and gender-inclusive initiatives along the agricultural value chains.
  • Demonstrated experience in livestock focused job creation and project management.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving with proven ability to be accountable for all livestock related interventions.
  • Experience in documentation, dissemination and institutionalization of best practices and lessons with implementing partners.
  • Experience in leading multi-dimensional teams and agricultural projects.
  • Analytical skills, including livelihood and farming system analysis.
  • Training or demonstrated experience in the agricultural economy.
  • Experience in innovative livestock value chain and MSME development.
  • Experience in successfully completing donor projects with major impacts.
  • Strong desire to improve the lives of smallholder farmers.
  • Strong capacity to facilitate teamwork.
  • Very good conflict management experience.
  • Willingness to undertake frequent field visits.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) in English and Amharic with the ability to create and deliver compelling presentations to diverse groups of stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical skills, and proficiency in computer and internet-based communication tools.
