- 6 months IV experience in a healthcare-related field or 4 year college degree
- 1 year of experience as a IV pharmacy technician in a pediatric hospital pharmacy environment or 2 years of experience as a IV pharmacy technician in a hospital pharmacy environment
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Georgia pharmacy technician registration
- Proficient in reading, writing, and mathematics
- Knowledge of medical/pharmaceutical terminology
- Good organizational skills and ability to learn and use computer systems
- Performs all job functions as described in the Pharmacy Technician I job description.
- Organizes and prioritizes phone calls, window traffic, and workload effectively and keeps pharmacist informed.
- Maintains a smooth workflow in area by utilizing problem-solving skills.
- Uses effective educational techniques in all training and educational activities.
- Identifies performance deficiencies of new employees and provides feedback/training in an effort to correct deficiencies.
- Provides feedback of employee progress routinely to Education Pharmacist or Team Leaders.
- Participates in required departmental training, education, and certification.
- Completes all required orientation/training checklist(s) and modules.
- Completes projects to develop professional skills and achieve department goals.
- Uses extra time advantageously to help others or work on department projects.
- Contributes to achievement of department goals and objectives through effective participation.
- Exhibits proficient performance in at least two work areas.
- Demonstrates ability to assess situations and bring issues or concerns to attention of pharmacist or team leader.
- Demonstrates effective time management, project management, and inventory control skills.
- Accurately prepares and compounds medications, including intravenous fluids, parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy solutions, and drips.
- Demonstrates aseptic technique when preparing sterile intravenous preparations and obtains yearly re-certification of aseptic technique.
- Prepares and maintains adequate supply of stock solutions.
- Documents on all intravenous compounding logs as appropriate.
- Uses available technology (e.g. i.v.SOFT, Baxa compounder).
- Demonstrates knowledge of Pyxis operations.
