Incumbent will assist residents with gardening, diagnose and correct horticultural related problems or plant diseases. Incumbent will also assist with the maintenance of seasonal beds and planters at other locations throughout the community. Incumbent will be intricately involved with landscaping sustainability projects, maintaining the trails around Broadmead, and providing guidance to the residents and resident committees.Education and Experience:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA and MOSHA safety standards
  • Comprehensive knowledge of care maintenance, and upkeep of grounds including shrubbery, lawns, trees, ground cover plantings, and design seasonality’s, etc.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of plant material identification
  • Comprehensive knowledge of green roof installation and maintenance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sustainable practices for landscape and land care.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of diagnosis of disease and pests and treatments of nursery stock
  • Comprehensive knowledge of selection and application of insecticides, pesticides, fungicides, fertilizers, and seeds
  • General knowledge of inventory and ordering supplies and budget practices
  • Comprehensive knowledge of equipment and vehicle repair and maintenance
  • Requires the ability to maintain good relations with residents, residents’ families, team members and suppliers.
  • Requires a minimum of a Degree in Horticulture or related field with hands-on experience in the field preferred.
  • Knowledge of Spanish as a second language is preferred but not required.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
Essential Duties:1. Responsible for planning and implementing grounds beautification programs including creating landscape designs, designing, and planting annual flower beds, diagnosing, and treating plant diseases and problems with pests, and replacing dead and dying trees and shrubbery. This involves an initial meeting with all new residents to discuss the landscape surrounding their homes.2. Responsible for higher maintenance and high visibility areas that require more comprehensive knowledge of plant selection, seasonality grounds maintenance, design and record keeping. These include but are not limited to cluster home front and back garden beds, common areas, courtyards, healthcare courtyards and patios, the green roof, landscape sustainability projects, trails, and bio-retention ponds.3. Assists the Senior Director of Facility Services with the planning of the grounds budget and seasonally recommends the purchase of insecticides, pesticides, fungicides, fertilizers, seed, annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs and grounds equipment.4. Maintains storm water management areas.5. Initiates own work mixes and chemicals and derives additional work from work orders and resident requests.6. Serves as a resource for residents regarding care and maintenance of greenhouse and flower and vegetable gardens.7. Responsible to ensure nature trails are maintained and support Trails Committee.8. Supports the initiatives and provides feedback to the Building and Grounds Committee.9. Responsible for feedback and assistance regarding capital planning projects as they might relate to Grounds,10. Maintains maintenance of fronts and backs of garden homes based on resident requests.11. Follows all safety regulations and practices and enforces safety programs among grounds workers.12. Accountable for promoting internal customer service and for timely follow-up.13. Abide by the organization’s code of conduct in the performance of their duties.
Perform other related duties as required including responding to severe weather events as requested by the Senior Director of Facility Services.
