Offer DescriptionCALL FOR ONE RESEARCH GRANT FOR A RESEARCHER WITH A BACHELOR'S DEGREE, UNDER THE PROJECT “Prehabilitation to enhance cancer treatment in patients with adenocarcinoma of the gastroesophageal junction and the stomach- PROTECT ” -( PTDC/SAU-DES/7945/2020 )The Instituto Português de Oncologia do Porto (IPO Porto) is opening a call to award a research grant to carry out R&D activities within the scope of the project, “Prehabilitation to enhance cancer treatment in patients with adenocarcinoma of the gastroesophageal junction and the stomach- PROTECT”- PTDC/SAU-DES/7945/2020), funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT).1. Scientific AreaHealth Sciences2. Admission requirementsObligatory * Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry, with final classification of at least 15/20;

Being enrolled in a Master's Degree in Biochemistry (specialization area: Clinical Biochemistry);
Laboratory experience in several molecular biology methods, including Western-Blot, Slot-Blot, ELISA, RT-PCR, PCR, MS, RMN, flow cytometry, chromatography techniques;
Experience in human and/or animal samples handling (blood, urine, skeletal muscle);
Residing in Portugal permanently and habitually, a requirement applicable to both nationals and foreign citizens;
Immediate availability as well as demonstrating, through the letter of motivation, motivation to commit to the tasks to be performed;

Preferential * English proficiency (oral and written);

Motivation to work in an interactive and collaborative environment;
Organized, able to prioritize and accomplish deadline;
Driven to full goals and reach objectives.

If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of the hiring act.

Work plan

The scholarship holder will be involved in the completion of the following tasks:

Collection and storage of biological samples from oncology patients;
Processing and analysis of biological samples (e.g., histology and immunohistochemistry, western blot, ELISA, zymography, proteomics), as defined in the research project;
Completion and updating of the research project database;

4. Applicable legislation and regulationsLaw no. 40/2004, of August 18th, in the current wording (Scientific Research Fellow Statute) and Regulation of Research Grants from FCT, in force .5. WorkplaceThe work will be developed mainly at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Porto Francisco Gentil, EPE (IPO-Porto), under the scientific guidance of Prof. Lúcio Lara Santos.6. Duration of the scholarshipThe grant will last for a maximum period of six (6) months, starting as soon as possible, on an exclusive basis, cannot be awarded for periods shorter than three consecutive months according to FCT's regulation of advanced training of human resources.7. Monthly value of the grant:The monthly maintenance allowance is 990,98 €, according to the table of stipends values awarded by the FCT, I.P, which can be consulted at: . The IPO-Porto will pay the monthly maintenance allowance amount by bank transfer. In addition, the grantee will be covered by a personal accident insurance (PAI).8. Selection MethodsThe admitted applications will be evaluated considering the candidates' academic or professional qualifications, professional career, relevance of the experience and training and the type of duties carried out in accordance with the profile described above.The jury will analyze the application documents according to following criteria:I. Criterion A (60%) - Integrated assessment of the candidate's academic trajectory, demonstrated by the classification obtained in the bachelor's degree.;II. Criterion B (40%) - Evaluation of the candidate's professional and research experience:

Subcriterion B1 (30%) - Experience in relevant laboratory techniques for the project (see Work Plan);

Subcriterion B2 (10%): Experience in database construction and maintenance, data processing and analysis, and participation in scientific publications (abstracts or articles);

Subcriterion B3 (10%) - Participation in research projects related to the competition area

Candidates will be ranked according to the weighted average of the classification obtained in each sub-criterion according to the following formula:Merit Rating = (60% × A) + (30% × B1) + (10% × B2) + (10% × B3)After evaluation of all admitted applications, the jury will write a meeting minute with all process of recruitment, evaluation, and selection, including an ordered list of approved candidates and the final decision of the jury. The final decision of the jury shall be validated by the Head of the Institution, who is also in charge of deciding about the hiring.9.
