We've got this!The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Summer Utility Operator in Training based out of Kamloops, BC. Reporting to the Area Manager, an Utility Operator in Training performs under general supervision, operates water analysis and treatment equipment to ensure water treatment, distribution, and/or wastewater treatment is performed as per regulatory, environmental and safety standards.What you'll doMajor Accountabilities
  • Control flow and processing of water/wastewater, residuals, and finished water/effluent, operating valves and gates either manually or by remote control
  • Monitor gauges, meters and control panels and observes variations in operating conditions
  • Collect samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses, interpreting test results to determine processing requirements
  • Ensure plant records are accurate and up to date
General Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision:
  • Start and stops pumps, engines and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly sampling of all aspects of the wastewater utility systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Operate, inspects and services equipment in water and wastewater, including hydraulics, pumps, valves etc
  • Perform related security, safety and administrative procedures involving chemical hazards, personal protective equipment, general health and safety procedures, and emergency preparedness
  • Maintain emergency preparedness binders and field operating manuals
  • Undertake routine repairs to water distribution and wastewater treatment and collection systems
  • Maintain shift logs, recoding meter and gauge readings
  • Perform other related duties as required
What you'll bringEducation / Experience
  • Water/Wastewater Operator in Training Certificate
  • Preferred: Wastewater Collection 1 Certificate
