Job Description:Your RoleThe Actuarial Pricing Shared Services team is responsible for collaborating with different Finance and Actuarial teams to support enterprise financial tracking and forecasting and drive the pricing target setting and planning to meet Company's operating and growth goals. The Senior Actuarial Analyst will report to the Senior Manager of the Actuarial Pricing Shared Services. In this role you will have visibility into total company financials and enterprise-wide initiatives. You will directly support reporting and forecasting of total company financial with a focus on Gross Margin. There will be exposure to support strategic initiatives on products, as well as impact assessment for legislative changes.Your WorkIn this role, you will:
  • Understand the core principles and functionality of decision, descriptive and predictive analytic methods including forecasting, statistical and machine learning techniques
  • Conduct and develop analysis, assess risk and population risk scores and assignment, develop pricing and trends, assess changes in benefit designs, develop reserves, perform forecasting, analyze provider reimbursement terms and/or evaluates actuarial risk related analysis
  • Coordinate, prepare, perform and audit actuarial analyses to assist in the development of complex actuarial formulations leading to the recommendation of pricing, trending, reserving, provider reimbursement and/or risk assessment strategies
  • Perform data exploration using a combination of statistical programming languages (including, but not limited R, Python, SQL, SAS) and deploys predictive analytics and machine learning techniques to improve risk prediction, improve reserve, trend and financial forecasting in a manner that is actuarially sound, and enable real-time results and operational efficiencies
  • Develop evaluation and financial reporting standards for internal and external reports
  • Responsible for consolidation and tracking of total company financials
  • This requires enterprise-wide collaboration and an understanding of key initiatives across the company in order to tell the story on total company performance
  • Actively automating and visualizing results
  • Support strategic initiative on TRIO-Tandem to track and understand performance in order to get them on a path to profitability
  • Other projects to involve and get exposure:
  • Setting of multi-year financial and pricing targets
  • Upcoming legislative changes and their impact to Actuarial
  • Has opportunity to get exposure to several other activities in the team such as Specialty pricing, Risk Adjustment projections, Product initiatives etc.
  • Communicate and work with cross-functional leadership in Finance, as well as all teams within Actuarial
Qualifications:Your Knowledge and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree with at least a minor in mathematics, statistics, computer science or equivalent business experience
  • Requires 3 years of professional actuarial experience
  • Requires critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Requires being a self-starter and team player
  • Requires advanced communication and presentation skills
  • Requires understanding of financial and economic terms and strong in financial modeling
  • Requires knowledge of financial regulations
Pay Range:The pay range for this role is: $ 99000.00 to $ 148500.00 for California.Note:Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade.
