Job Description:Job Title - Senior Project Manager: Typhoon ECRS Mk.2 SectorThe OpportunityWe have an exciting opportunity within the Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business of Leonardo UK. We are seeking an experienced project manager to manage all aspects of Functional Integration within the ECRS Mk.2 Radar development programme.The role requires close liaison with the wider Integrated Project Team (IPT) comprised of a large, multi-site, multi-disciplined cross functional skillset of engineers and professionals from across the business. In addition, this role requires management of complex work packages being undertaken by the Electronic Warfare line of business on behalf of the ECRS Mk.2 programme.Establishing and maintaining senior leadership confidence across the programme by developing relationships within the complex stakeholder community will be vital to project success.This leadership role can accommodate a mixture of on-site and home working with in line with Programme requirements.Key Responsibility Areas & CompetenciesReporting to the Lead Project Manager, the Senior Project Manager for Functional Integration will interface with Project Engineering Leads and a number of internal functions primarily inclusive of Engineering (Electronics, Systems & Software Engineering and related CDTs (Core Delivery Teams), Quality Assurance, Planning, Finance & Commercial.You will be responsible for project execution and delivery, with particular emphasis on achieving customer commitments. You will lead all aspects of project management including, stakeholder management, lifecycle management, team leadership, risk management, financial management and all aspects of the monthly project review cycle. Specific areas of responsibility include:-
  • Ownership of the Functional Integration budget and schedule through monitoring of expenditures and costs throughout the financial year through representation of work packages within Primavera P6 and SAP Enterprise Management tools
  • Generation of accurate project performance and forecasting metrics into the Lead Project Manager and Programme Manager for subsequent presentation into RATS Senior Management.
  • Management reporting of IPT and related sub-contract activities, including representation at Project Performance Reviews with senior management on an as-required basis. Organising and coordinating all internal reviews, you will manage the resultant actions to closure.
  • Promoting a best practice of knowledge sharing and establishing clear success criteria for each member of the IPT, you will coordinate activities by great communication and planning skills.
  • Definition and implementation of corrective actions required to tackle any deviations from the planned activities.
  • Resilient and focussed, you will possess strong project financial awareness with single point responsibility for financial out-turn within your area of responsibility.
  • Management and evaluation of Project Risk and Opportunity through the project lifecycle.
  • With a collaborative approach, you will maintain close and trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders fostering high levels of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Provision of support and/or leadership of Bids & Proposal generation typically within short timescales.
  • Identification and management of internal and external dependencies to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Strong support to Procurement in the management of the Supply Chain with a focus on Security related aspects.
Skills, Qualifications and Knowledge requiredYou will typically be educated to degree standard, ideally in a business or engineering related discipline. Ideally you will also meet the requirements for registration as a full member of the Association of Project Managers (APM) or recognised equivalent.
  • Project Management experience in all phases of the project execution life cycle, including the Business Winning Phases across several projects.
  • Experience in the defence sector on programmes ranging from medium to large complexity will be ideal.
  • Experience within both Commercial and Procurement environments associated with major sub-contracts would be advantageous given specifics of this role.
  • An appreciation of hardware, systems & software engineering and exposure of a systems integration environment would be beneficial.
  • An understanding of both Scaled Agile and Waterfall methodologies along with tools & techniques to assure alignment across multiple work streams.
  • Exposure to projects comprising complex sub-contracts and commercial frameworks.
  • Use of Collaboration tools and techniques to ensure up to date project information is available as and when requested.
Intrinsic Factors
  • This is primarily an office based role using display screen equipment but also requires occasional presence in Laboratory & Manufacturing environments.
  • Periodic travel within the UK and abroad is anticipated with overnight stays as required.
