The Head of Stress provides analytical guidance in structural and occupant injury simulation leading a technical team of stress engineers across multiple programs, working closely with other functions such as Design, Certification and Production to ensure that seating products are lightweight, durable and safe throughout their working life.The Head of Stress is responsible for the planning, oversight and delivery of all stress activities relating to all products/platforms within SSGB.Industry Knowledge
 Required working knowledge of Aerospace regulations FAR/CS 25-561, EASA Part 21 J, ARP 5526 and Airframer specifications.
 Be familiar with all aspects of Aerospace engineering techniques.Organisation / Planning
 In support of all programs ensure all stress activities are thoroughly planned, managed and appropriately resourced.
 Responsible for the management of the SSGB team of Stress Engineers across all UK sites ensuring all programs are adequately resourced with the appropriate skills to ensure tasks are completed to requirements on time.
Technical
 In-depth working knowledge of aerospace industry standard stress analysis methods covering both hand calculations, linear/non-linear implicit FE analysis and/or multi-body dynamic analysis and/or non-linear explicit FE analysis methods.
 When required directly or indirectly provide technical support to the program specific stress teams to:
o Ensure that the risk of a certification test failure is managed effectively and minimised with the use of appropriate analytical methods and judgement.
o Review and approve hand calculations, linear static, non-linear, crash, multi-body dynamic and optimisation FE models for seating products to support the design and certification process, plus the in-service life of the product.
o Review and approve stress and structural documentation to submit for internal/external customers and regulatory approval.
o Review and approve drawings, designs, concessions and repairs with respect to stress.
o Support the Design team in ensuring that products meet cost and weight targets.Problem Solving
 Where structural issues are identified ensure appropriate improvements have been recommended and alternate solutions assessed ensuring the optimum solution is identified.
 Leading/driving root cause analysis (e.g. 8D/Ishikawa).
Communication / Interpersonal
 Liaise with Design, Certification, Manufacturing and other company departments as required.
 Be able to produce plans of tasks and resource to Programme Team for stress activities.
 Liaise with external suppliers, customers, airframers, regulatory bodies and other industrial organisations as required.
 Review and critique communications such as reports, test reports, emails and etc. Organise, manage and control meetings and convey information clearly and concisely, and ensure they are efficient and effective.
 Have a holistic view of multiple projects and the ability to mobilise the stress team to best support all projects considering business priorities. A nuanced understanding of management skills required to ensure that objectives are managed and maintained efficiently and effectively across multiple projects.Leading Aerospace Client|Team management responsibilityKnowledge, Experience, Training and QualificationsMinimum - 2:1 Bachelors (Honours) degree or equivalent in Mechanical/Aerospace/Structural Engineering.Preferably - MEng or PhD with specialism in FEA, simulation, dynamics, materials and/or structures. Degree accredited with IMechE. CEng status.5 years+ working in Aerospace or comparable industry.Experience of working to industry standards and codes. Knowledge of Part 25 (EASA/FAA) and Boeing / Airbus specifications. Knowledge of ACs, ARPs and Aerospace Standards. Knowledge of Aerospace Material Standards and Material or component test standards and post-processing methods (e.g. ASTMs and B-Basis calculations)Organisational and planning experience with the ability to plan and manage the work of a technical team of approximately 15 to 25 engineers, meet deadlines and work effectively with different functions and levels of responsibility.Are you interested in working at the business end of Aerospace, where airline brand meets innovative passenger experience?
