- Mentor junior staff providing technical guidance and coordinating activities of those assigned to projects.
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations
- HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Systems design.
- Coordinate mechanical requirements with other disciplines involved in the project design team.
- Coordinate service requirements/connections with utility and/or municipal agencies
- Review/supervise drafting, and prepare/review markups.
- Attend project progress meetings and provide updates to the assigned Project Manager
- Prepare tender documentation including specifications.
- Perform field reviews, site surveys, and final inspections.
- Carry out contract administration including shop drawing reviews.
- Assist/ participate in the development of training material, design workshops, presentations, and other educational resources for junior staff.
- Assist in the constant improvement of internal processes related to Design only, and Design & Build projects.
- Keep current on new developments in relevant codes and innovative design
- Assist with fee proposal preparation.
- Maintain client relations and develop business opportunities with new clients
- Collaborate with the Construction Division during Design & Build process
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- 5+ years design experience in HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems
- 3+ years of AutoCAD experience
- Professional Engineer (PEng) or Applied Science Technologist (AScT) preferred
- LEED® Accredited Professional designation or Green Building Certification is an asset
- Knowledge of the BC Building Code, Vancouver By-Laws, ASHRAE, CSA, CCDC, ASPE, NFPA, and other applicable codes and standards
- Ability to prepare working drawings using AutoCAD (Revit an asset)
- Ability to read Architectural, Structural, and Electrical drawings with minimal supervision
- Ability to apply prescriptive requirements of plumbing, building, and fire protection codes
- Ability to work on multiple projects at once
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in supervising/mentoring others
- Ability to work with clients, contractors, consulting engineers, and suppliers in a professional manner
