The candidate will be joining the Observatory at a stimulating time of growth and expansion and will manage and help drive a growing research agenda through data analysis and review.The successful applicant will have:a good understanding of data quality best practicesproficiency with data science libraries in high-level programming languages, such as Python or Rexperience collecting, labeling, and analyzing data to answer social scientific research questionscommunication skills to coordinate with team members on investigationsextensive experience working with social media data, including designing, collecting, managing, sharing, and analyzing data in an efficient mannerThe successful applicant may have:the ability to communicate effectively in Frenchfamiliarity with the Canadian media ecosystemSpecific duties:Under the direction of the Media Ecosystem Observatory leadership, the successful candidate will be expected to fulfill the following duties:Clean and merge manually collected data on entities that are relevant to the Canadian information ecosystemGuide the data collection process to follow best practices for clean data and communicate findings with team membersExtend the seedlist used in the Canadian information ecosystem analysis by collecting and analyzing data on relevant entities;Provide general support to the Centre’s research activities where needed.Hourly Salary: $22.50Hours per Week: 20 (Part time)Location: Sherbrooke 680Supervisor: Assistant Professor (Research)Position Start Date: 2024-05-15Position End Date: 2024-08-30Deadline to Apply:This position is covered by the Association of McGill University Research Employees (AMURE) collective agreement.McGill University hires on the basis of merit and is strongly committed to equity and diversity within its community.
