General Accountability:Reporting to Assistant Manager and Senior Engineer - Electrical, the Electrical
Technologist provides technical support and design expertise in relation to electrical engineering designs for TTC's buildings, maintenance facilities and transit facilities.The Electrical Technologist will retrieve as-built drawings, conduct site surveys, define design scopes, complete designs, prepare conceptual and final drawings, and contribute to the tendering and construction documents. The design work is subject to approval by the Senior Engineer - Electrical. The Electrical Technologist will also provide technical assistance to TTC Plant Maintenance project management team and trades personnel on an as required basis.Duties and Responsibilities:Under direction/oversight from the Senior Engineer - Electrical, the Electrical Technologist provides technical support and design expertise in relation to electrical engineering work including power supply and distribution systems, equipment protection systems, lighting systems, emergency power systems, telephone and network systems, public address systems, automated building control systems, and other electrical systems.This involves:
  • Preparing Design Scope Clarifications and Design Scope Clarification Reports by communicating with the work order originators and stakeholders.
  • Extracting existing drawings and conducting site surveys to determine existing
conditions.
  • Preparing electrical designs, specifications and CADD drawings using Microsoft
Office, Bentley ProjectWise and MicroStation systems.
  • Preparing the above per markups, sketches, and verbal instructions from Senior
Engineer- Electrical
  • Preparing documents and drawings in other formats, such as PDF, as required.
  • Performing duties as specified in Standard Operating Procedures and Standard
Work Instructions to facilitate design delivery.
  • Co-ordinating design with other design disciplines and trades as required.
  • Assisting the team in determining the requirements of Designated Substance
Survey and Locate Reference drawings.
  • Carrying out assigned field reviews to ensure that construction is in general
compliance with Issued for Construction documents, Ontario Building Code,
Electrical Safety Code, and in accordance with TTC requirements.
  • Reviewing shop drawings and materials submissions.
  • Conducting independent studies and analysis of products, equipment, systems and resolving design problems and construction issues by applying relevant
engineering principles and standard practices.
  • Providing construction support and preparing Site Instructions.
  • Reviewing as-built markups provided by the trades, confirming the installations, and preparing as-built drawings.
  • Surveying the existing facilities and preparing single line diagrams.
