- Current Certificate of Registration in good standing, or eligible for registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current CPR or BCLS certificate.
- Minimum 6 months continuous clinical work experience (within the last 2 years) of postpartum nursing.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation.
- Educational preparation and experience in lactation support or obtain within 6 months.
- Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload. (PDA available to review)
- Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, interpersonal and communication skills,
- Performs acts requiring specialized knowledge, skills and judgement necessary for postpartum and newborn patients,
- Practices within the principles of patient and family centred care,
- Maintains the health record/clinical documentation in accordance with College of Nurses Standards,
- Practicing in compliance with provincial legislation, hospital policy and procedures, professional regulatory standards and evidence based practices within the nursing profession,
- Maintaining professional competence by completing regular professional development including annual training and education as indicated,
- Participates in unit/departmental and hospital quality improvement initiatives,
- Adheres to a safe and healthy workplace and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established mechanisms for injuries and hazards and adheres to health and safety related policy and procedures,
- Adapts and adheres to the values of QHC while promoting and advocating for an enhanced patient experience, and
- Other duties as assigned.
- Required Occasionally - lifting and carrying average weight 20 pounds and max 50, pushing/pulling average 10-15 pounds and max 30 pounds, patient assist approx. 100 pounds
