
Building Operator

- In conjunction with the Supervisor or Project Manager and the team, plan and execute responsive and planned maintenance in accordance with the computerized maintenance management system
- Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with other subcontractors
- Perform basic inspections on various building systems (i.e. emergency generator, fire alarms, security access and CCTV systems)
- Respond to the Housing Managers' requests and work with the Black & McDonald Call Center, reporting back with response and rectification times
- Perform light duties such as cleaning, painting, HVAC, Plumbing, and other Mechanical duties, supervising sub-contractor technicians, mechanics, etc.
- Build and maintain customer and supplier/vendor relationships
- Assist in developing and implementing quality control programs
- Assist in purchase of building materials
- Review work/contracts/Work In Progress for areas of risk and correct deficiencies

- Power Engineering Certification is an asset but not required
- 1-3 years' experience as a Building Operator/Handyman or similar role
- 1-3 years' experience working within commercial buildings/facilities or in construction would be considered an asset
- Must be comfortable working within the Downtown Eastside environment
- Understanding of basic computer skills and working knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook
- Knowledge in building automation, mechanical, electrical, and fire life systems is an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills required
- Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
- Must be a team player, work well with others
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times with customers and employees
- Must be available for occasional Emergency after hours duties as part of a rotation
- Must be able to walk between various sites within the DTES as required
