Unit Clerk, Reasearch Clinical TrialsBC CancerVancouver, BCThe Clinical Trials Unit Clerk performs a variety of clerical duties which include reception, word processing, processing of doctor’s orders, recording and maintenance of records, statistics, photocopying, fax processing, document collation and ordering of supplies.What you’ll do
  • Processes written doctor’s orders by:
  • Completing requisitions for tests or services.
  • Booking tests/procedures or consultations with other departments.
  • Booking return appointments to Ambulatory Care or other departments, and return admission appointments.
  • Recording verbal laboratory results, obtaining file test results and requesting x-rays.
  • Booking of transportation for patients within the clinic or to other locations.
  • Coordinates shipment of laboratory specimens by performing duties such as:
  • Picking up specimens from the labs.
  • Labeling specimens according to study protocol instructions.
  • Packaging specimens according to study protocol instructions.
  • Completing shipping documentation (courier service, commercial invoice).
  • Delivering packages to the mailroom.
  • Performs word processing task such as:
  • Typing standard doctor orders for clinical trial protocols.
  • Typing confidential correspondence from written draft.
  • Initiating and drafting routine correspondence for signature.
  • Preparing regulatory documents for protocol initiation.
  • Maintaining master lists of open and closed trials and associated data.
  • Performs reception duties such as answering telephones, taking messages and locating of staff via pager system, answering inquiries and giving directions.
  • Prepares charts for protocol treatments; requests charts from Central Files.
What you bringQualifications:
  • Grade 12, medical terminology, and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program plus one (1) year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to keyboard 40 w.p.m.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of computer software applications.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
