Engineering Manager

- Work on individual projects or as part of a group in all areas of aircraft modification and repair projects for wide range of aircraft from normal through transport category fixed and rotary wing.
- Support in interfacing directly with customers, equipment suppliers, TCCA/FAA/EASA and subcontractors in support of project requirements
- When required, perform on-site engineering support for aircraft modifications, surveys, testing, etc.
- Effectively communicate with on-site aircraft maintenance team and manage engineering design changes during aircraft modifications
- Preparation of engineering and airworthiness documentation from modification conceptualization to final approval:
- Engineering analysis and reports, primarily in areas of structures, mechanical systems and occupancy safety.
- Reports on engineering analysis clearly documenting methodology, assumptions, reference data, margins of safety, etc.
- Airworthiness approval documentation
- Airworthiness compliance reports to fulfill certification requirements.
- Design models and engineering drawings for various aircraft modifications and repairs
- Technical publications such as maintenance manual supplements, Instructions for continued airworthiness, flight manual supplements, etc.
- Ground and flight test plans, analysis, and reports
- Assist with the training and development of junior engineers including the assistance to generate training materials.
- Any other duties assigned relevant to the role.
- Manage mechanical and structures engineering team
- Actively identify, nominate, mentor and support future delegate candidates
- Perform performance reviews of team members
- Participate in recruitment activities and selection of new teams members to the core engineering group (resume reviews, interviews, etc.)
- Fulfill Human Resource activities as it relates to being a manager with direct employee reports (vacation approvals, expense approvals, etc.)
- Determine and manage your team’s work load capacity and maintain awareness of your team’s work assignments.
- Maintain awareness of team members technical capabilities, and coach and mentor on gaps
- Perform group check-in meetings with your direct reports on a minimum frequency of once per week
- Assist in the development of team members skill enhancement and new skill development
- Assist in resource allocation meetings in order to assign your team members to projects based on project task requirements, resource availability and resource capability.
- Assist and mentor direct reports such as providing technical direction on their assigned tasks
- Participate in technical audits of team members work to ensure accuracy and efficiencies.
- Assist in developing engineering procedures and workflow processes to improve the engineering groups efficiencies.
- Assist in identifying engineering tools and training to improve engineering capabilities.
- Collaborating with other Engineering Managers to support requests and meetings from Senior Director of Engineering
- Any other duties assigned relevant to the role.
- A minimum of 5 years work experience in a technical role supporting aircraft development, modifications and/or repairs.
- A minimum of 3 years work experience in role managing a technical/engineering team.
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or extensive applicable experience will be considered.
- Knowledge of airworthiness regulations and standards from Transport Canada, FAA and/or EASA and the methods of airworthiness compliance to the regulations is preferred.
- Knowledge and direct experience in Design Approval Organization (DAO) activities is preferred
- Experience with cad software (Solidworks and AutoCAD software packages is preferred)
- Experience in one or more of the following is required: aircraft structures and stress analysis, mechanical systems and occupancy safety.
- Experience in preparation of engineering reports
- Experience with aircraft procedures and publications such as AMM, SRM, AFM, IPC, scheduled maintenance, etc.
- Experience in generating aircraft technical publications.
- Excellent organization and time management skills to be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal communication, writing and publication skills with strong attention to details.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in a team environment with strong interpersonal skills
- Strong management skills such as emotional intelligence, relationship building, strategic thinking, delegating, team building, motivation and conflict resolution.
