(employee will be working with or have access to children or vulnerable adults and requires a Criminal Record Check)NoJob DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.Reporting to the Vice President, People, the Executive Director, Health, Wellness, Safety and Ability Management provides senior leadership for Island Health's Occupational Health, Safety & Prevention, Disability Management, senior leadership for the provincial workplace health call centre, safety and prevention and absence and ability management including, Accommodation and Health and Wellness programs and processes that support healthy work environments, safe return to work of employees from disability claims and prevention of injuries. Provincially, this position provides leadership as part of the OHS directorate and is Island Health's senior leader at the Provincial Safety Agency.The Executive Director, as a member of the People Leadership team, is accountable for coordinating resources, advancing priorities and implementing consistent policies for the department; monitors trends in emerging Workplace Health programs and Workplace Health Call Centre (WHCC) Services; holds overall accountability for the actions, outcomes and quality of service delivery for Island Health's /Workplace Health and the WHCC. The Executive Director is responsible for leading the ongoing development of the Health Authority Health & Safety Management Systems (HSMS) through resources as provided by the Health Authorities and prioritized through appropriate provincial committees. The Executive Director represents the Health Authority to collaboratively oversee/lead the Provincial Workplace Health Services programs, services, and initiatives, including designated staff and leadership, with the other provincial health authority leads and HEABC representatives.The ED directs the development and implementation of program service delivery models, business plans, priorities, goals and operating budget, including people, financial and physical resources. This position is responsible for a designated Geography or a set of assigned island-wide programs within the Clinical Service Delivery Portfolio.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceMinimum requirement of a Master's Degree in Occupational Health, Business Administration or relevant health care discipline plus a minimum of fifteen (15) years recent, related experience in progressively more complex senior management/leadership roles in a large multi-union environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Skills And Abilities
  • Sound working knowledge of planning concepts related to budgetary, staffing, occupational health and safety and strategic initiatives.
  • Sound knowledge of contemporary and best practices in injury prevention and occupational health and wellness.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to adapt readily to rapid and changing environments and the ability to adapt with initiative.
  • Ability to interact professionally with various levels of staff both internally and externally.
  • In-depth understanding of health services and operations. Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
