The engineer will primarily design, implement, and manage the lifecycle of the embedded firmware within new PCBs needed in production test stations for Ciena's Wavelogic Coherent Optical solutions. This will involve gathering all requirements from various R&D and operations teams and implementing the features within the embedded systems on the PCBs in the test stations. The engineer will also aid in the hardware design of these specialized PCBs. This will involve gathering design requirements and managing a design or parts of a design from concept to production, as well as sustaining the PCBs throughout their lifecycle at the Contract Manufacturers.Software Skills:
  • Develop and maintain firmware to deploy on production test PCBs within test stations at Contract Manufacturers.
  • Detailed understanding and experience in embedded system software development.
  • coding C#, C, Python and Matlab.
  • Understanding of Linux environments and Linux tool development.
Hardware Skills:
  • Reading and understanding schematics and layouts.
  • Understanding and implementing data protocols such as I2C, SPI, MDIO, UART, 1-wire and SGMII.
  • Detailed understanding and testing of SerDes protocols and lane metrics up to 112Gbps PAM4 and beyond.
  • Probing and debugging PCBs in the lab.
  • Familiarity with using lab equipment (DMMs, SMUs, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers).
  • In-circuit device programming using C2 interface, PMBUS, UART, etc.
General skills:
  • Ability to gather requirements across various teams and provide a complete test solution.
  • Organize and drive meetings across various teams to gather requirements, develop, and present solutions.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills to enable test solution deployment across many sites.
  • Engage in detailed problem solving.
  • Strength in explaining test solution and instructions to technicians and operators.

Experience:
  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
