Are you an experienced professional in the refrigeration and air-conditioning trade? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!As a journeyperson level Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Technician, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks including installation, construction, maintenance, repair, and overhauling of air conditioning and refrigeration systems along with their component parts. Your expertise will play a critical role in ensuring the efficiency, reliability, and safety of HVAC systems. All assigned tasks must be carried out with a strong commitment to safety and environmental sustainability.Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve results in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded way.With a focus on the to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:
  • Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, overhauls and installations of central air conditioning
  • Inspect air conditioning and refrigeration systems, diagnosing system conditions and adjusting, cleaning, repairing and/or replacing equipment components as required
  • Service and perform washouts on cooling towers; service dry coolers and perform maintenance on reduction gear boxes
  • Inspect and service water and air cooled condensers
  • Perform leak checks on air conditioning and refrigeration equipment
  • Services commercial and industrial chillers
  • Perform calibrations and set up pneumatic and electronic ice plant controls
  • Respond to and troubleshoot emergency and issue calls for all systems listed above
  • Maintain an inventory of tools and materials
  • Document materials and parts utilized at various job sites
  • Replenish materials and parts as needed
  • Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
  • Certified Alberta Journeyperson in the trade of Refrigeration Mechanic, or equivalent certification recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training
  • Knowledge concerning the rules and codes controlling refrigeration and air conditioning trade
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade
  • Familiarity with the work of related trades, such as plumbing and gas fitting
  • Physical ability to perform medium to heavy manual labour, such as moving heavy equipment, lifting and bending, in various weather and environmental conditions, such as extreme heat and at heights
  • Ability to understand drawings and blueprints, and follow written and/or verbal instructions to mount or place system components
  • Ability to prioritize and complete work tasks independently, as well as work well with others
  • Ability to use computer-based building management systems, including basic knowledge of Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, etc.)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator, and compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this position
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel toed boots, is a requirement for this position
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
