The Electrical Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, profitable, and timely completion of electrical locomotive work in Cochrane. They are also responsible for maintenance and day to day operations. The Supervisor ensures that production schedules are met and work is completed in accordance with quality specifications and safety standards.MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet daily with the electrical team to discuss the day-to-day operations including prioritizing work and coordinating the tasks which are planned for the shop
- Responsible for planning HVAC and APU electrical maintenance
- Lead, coach and resolve any problems that the electricians may encounter in the locomotive, PBX and APU electrical department
- Supervise other trades as required occasionally
- Investigate immediately all reported hazards, health and safety concerns, incidents, accidents and rail occurrences in the workplace
- Identify the root cause(s) of incidents, implement corrective measures and follow up to ensure effectiveness
- Implement in a timely manner any corrective measures required to mitigate reoccurrence of any incidents or accidents
- Follow up on all implemented control or corrective measures to ensure their effectiveness
- Eliminate or control all reported or observable hazards by implementing corrective/remedial action by using the hierarchy of controls in a timely manner and in compliance with the law and the Company’s policies and procedures
- Accurate quoting of all electrical work for RFQ tenders, locomotive repairs, APU, PBX and HVAC maintenance, and traction motor builds
- Monitor and respond to train operational requirements as required (24/7)
- Ensure employees work safely and efficiently in a positive work environment
- Provide task execution training/instruction for unionized staff
- Trade Certification in either, Electrician – Construction and Maintenance 309A, or Industrial 442A
- Secondary School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED)
- 3-5 years supervisory experience preferably in a unionized environment
- Good analytical and leadership skills
- Must be results oriented and a team player
- Excellent organizational and planning skills
- Have a solid understanding of collective agreements
- Proficient in reading, interpreting and working from blueprints
- Knowledge of maintenance and repairs of locomotives and passenger cars is an asset
