Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto)Description:GGR 390 H1F: Field MethodsCourse Description: Introduction to field methods in geomorphology, vegetation mapping/analysis, soils, hydrology, and climatology. The course includes exercises and a group project during a one-week field camp, a little preparation during the preceding summer, and complementary practical work and/or seminars during the Fall Term. Each student is required to pay the costs of their transportation and accommodation (field trip costs: approximately $485). This course meets the field requirement for Physical & Environmental Geography programs. The field camp normally runs for one week at the end of August. Students must submit an application directly to the Department in the spring (see the Geography website for details in April). Course may be limited by size. Not eligible for CR/NCR option.The course will be co-taught with another faculty member in the Department of Geography and Planning.Estimate of course enrollment: 25Estimate of TA Support:70Class Schedule: Tuesdays, 4:00pm to 5:00pmSessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024Salary: Sessional Lecturer I - $9,457.89. Sessional Lecturer I Long-term - $9,930.79, Sessional Lecturer II - $10,121.76.Sessional Lecturer II Long-term - $10,326.61; Sessional Lecturer III - $10,362.76, Sessional Lecturer III Long-term - $10,570.02Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.Minimum Qualifications: A PhD in Geography or a related field is required. Knowledge of the course topics is required.Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience teaching preferred. Completion of a professional development course on teaching preferred.Brief description of duties: Preparing materials for lectures and class discussions; preparing course syllabi and selecting relevant readings; developing, administering, and marking course assignments, tests and exams; test/exam invigilation; holding regular office hours; planning and supervising the work of teaching assistants. This course requires prep work between July to September which will include planning the course’s field component.
