Location: Burlington, CanadaJob Summary:The Senior Product Engineer (MI/SUS) is responsible for margin improvement and sustaining activities for Semtech products, from production release to end of life, across a range of exciting and challenging markets, processes, technologies, and requirements.In this role, you will enjoy the opportunities and challenges of independently leading technical investigations that impact product margins and the bottom line of the SIP business unit. You will also be called upon to triage and resolve production issues across the test, foundry, and assembly domains for various production products. Involvement lasts throughout all stages of a product’s lifecycle including process changes, improvements, and maintenance of the product line. You will be a central resource assisting the team to meet its annual business plan goals, working with our Quality, Operations, Marketing, NPI Product Engineering, and Test Engineering teams to keep production running smoothly. You will be relied upon for resolve critical production issues in a timely manner, partner with test engineers to develop & drive test & yield optimizations, support and implement test screens for customer returns, and be an asset to other cross functional teams.Responsibilities:Take overall ownership for our product’s manufacturing at product introduction including:Regular monitoring of yields and quality at all processing steps.Maintain product bill of materials and routings, and all product documentation.Drive optimization of all manufacturing processes leading to reduced cost of product (COP), predictable yields, and quality levels that exceed our customer’s expectations.Drive manufacturing margin improvement and quality targets and requirements, working with Test Engineering to reduce test time and improve test coverage.Ensure timely and effective management of customer returns and non-conforming production.Interface with development engineers by reviewing and influencing the design for manufacturability for new products.Work with Production and Off-Shore Assembly and Test Suppliers to deliver to forecast.Liaison with various internal and external staff to ensure security of supply (eg. Production Planners, Product, Design, and Test Engineers, Quality Assurance and Failure Analysis personnel).Minimum Qualifications:BS in Electrical Engineering or related field and a minimum of 5 - 8 years relevant work experience.Experience in semi-conductor technology, product, test and/or design engineering.Experience with quality systems including corrective actions, 8D reports, non-conformance reports, and failure analysis reports.Knowledge and experience with statistical theory and data analysis tools (e.g. Excel, JMP, Galaxy, dataConductor) for design of experiments, yield reporting and modelling.Experience in high-speed digital ATE test platforms (e.g. Advantest, Teradyne) or equivalent rack solutions is an asset.Knowledge of video and/or datacom equipment, high speed serial digital interconnect components and test methodologies would be a definite asset.Experience with JEDEC, and/or Mil quality requirements.The intent of this job description is to describe the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job.
