Our aim is to help everyone reach their full potential and achieve their personal and professional goals.Our diverse group of legal professionals, law students, law clerks, paralegals, legal administrative assistants and business services team members work together, and are respected and valued for their individual contributions.PROFILEThe Gowling WLG Montreal office is currently seeking an associate to join its Business Law Group servicing a wide range of clients from startups to multinationals.The team's scope of work is broad (including mergers and acquisitions, private equity, equity capital markets, joint ventures and group restructurings) and the team has proven that it has the sectoral and international expertise to attract work of the highest quality.RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participate in various transactions pertaining to secured and unsecured loan transactions where a number of financial structures are used such as syndicated loans, subordinate financings/mezzanine financings and asset-backed loans.
  • Assist with regard to loans in which borrowers are limited liability partnerships, limited partnerships or trusts, as well as corporations or individuals.
  • Act in matters relating to taking security in multiple jurisdictions and coordinate with local agent in taking security in multiple jurisdictions
  • Issuing, reviewing and settling legal opinions
  • Advise clients on issues related to financing matters and pertaining to business law in general.
  • Represent lenders as well as borrowers.
  • The candidate will be able to count on the support of an experienced and organized team to help him/her in his/her work and allow him/her to evolve rapidly.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in banking and financial services.
  • Experience in real estate law is a definite asset.
  • High level of motivation, commitment and leadership.
  • Excellent skills in interpersonal relations and team work.
  • Ability to manage several matters simultaneously in a fast-paced environment where the ability to meet deadlines is as important as attention to detail.
  • Capable of assuming a high degree of responsibility and have a desire to gain exposure to increasingly challenging work.
  • Excellent drafting and oral communication skills.
  • Bilingualism (French/English).
