Duties will include proposal and budget preparation, project management, development and execution of field programs, mentorship of intermediate and junior staff in field assessment, regulatory approvals, advise and environmental assessment processes, and client relationship development.The focus of the Assessment, Risk & Reclamation team is to:
  • Develop, complete and support soil and groundwater assessments, risk management, remediation and reclamation projects/programs for a variety of clients
  • Provide services including Phase I and II environmental site assessments and remediation
  • Utilize a risk assessment approach to obtain site closure
  • Provide 3rd party review and support to client and partners
  • Provide spill response services to key clients and partners
ExperienceMinimum 10 years experience in the environmental consulting industry, with direct experience planning and leading multi-disciplinary teams in complex environmental field programs and associated reporting including environmental assessments, site remediation and reclamation activities.Education
  • BSc or MSc in Environmental Science, Engineering, Hydrogeology, Biology, Ecology, Forestry or other program with an environmental focus.
  • Must be registered as a Professional (example: Agrologist, Forester, Biologist, Engineer, Hydrogeologist) with sign-off in Alberta.
Position RequirementsThe suitable candidate for this position will lead, manage, and support environmental assessment and monitoring projects in the urban development, First Nation, oil and gas, and natural resource management sectors.More specific position requirements include:Technical Requirements
  • Managing and undertaking remediation and reclamation program planning (large and small scale) including site assessments, data collection, scheduling, subcontractor oversight and work plan development while ensuring environmental diligence and public safety.
  • Coordination and execution of environmental assessment and monitoring field programs including environmental assessments (Phase 1, 2, and 3), subsurface investigations (soil monitoring, remediation, and spills), monitoring well installation, soil and groundwater sampling, Detailed Site Assessments, and site remediation monitoring.
  • Overseeing quality control including review and approval of technical correspondence, project proposals, technical reports, work plans, and project specifications including cost estimates and budgets.
  • Provide technical leadership and senior review for reports related to environmental assessments, risk, and reclamation projects including the compilation and interpretation of environmental data for distribution to clients, regulatory bodies or public.
  • Mentor, lead, and train intermediate and junior personnel.
Project Management
  • Excels in project management, with strong organizational skills establishing priorities, timeframes, and meeting deadlines. Must be able to make independent decisions and ensure standards and quality of work are maintained
  • Ensure projects are delivered on-time, on-budget, with an appropriate quality standard for each project (whether conducted by self or by other team members)
  • Coordinate project resources from various sources to build effective multi-disciplinary teams aligning with project goals and objectives
  • Communicates effectively with project teams regarding the project scope, goals and deliverables; includes coordinating project team members and subcontractors, defining schedules and identifying deadlines as necessary
  • Develops effective work schedules for the team, taking into account client and contractor requirements, team members' scheduled time off and any other applicable considerations
  • Participate in improving company resources and tools to improve production and efficiency
  • Complete, manage and review daily time and expenses entries relative to assigned projects
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key clients.
Communication
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills are required to manage multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Ability to “simplify the science” for non-experts to help them understand complex environmental risks and opportunities in an uncomplicated way
  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills
Additional Requirements
  • Self-starter who has strong ability to set goals and achieve those goals; work independently and possesses a willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry is an asset
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS and statistical analysis is an asset.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite of services
  • Broad awareness of emerging and best practices related to Indigenous community engagement within the cultural sphere across Canada
