About the role
In this role, you will ensure effective and efficient processing and decision making relating to all development, subdivision and use proposals within the City with a focus on the Growth area planning applications.The role is also responsible for providing clients with a customer focused professional advisory service along with providing coaching, mentoring and a training and development program for a team of professionals.Work type: Permanent full time
Classification: Band 8 ($115,035-$127,911 + super)Key responsibilities include:
  • Investigate and evaluate major development and growth area applications.
  • Supervise the investigation, evaluation and reporting of applications by a team of professional town planners and technical staff.
  • Represent Council at VCAT hearings in respect to major appeal proceedings.
  • Develop policy for the processing of development, subdivision and use applications in accordance with Planning Scheme provisions.
  • Act as the principal contact for the Strategic Planning unit in the development of policy and/or amendments to the Greater Geelong Planning Scheme.
  • Be a contact point for use/development and subdivision enquiries as required.
  • Liaise with Councillors and senior management in respect to individual applications for use, subdivision and development.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in town planning or urban studies (or related field) and substantial experience in a town planning office, preferably with Growth Area planning experience (including local government).Essential Experience:
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge and ability to interpret town-planning legislation and practices and association
  • Thorough understanding of the operation of local government, the Victorian planning system and the legal process generally within Victoria
  • Highly developed analytical, investigative and communication skills.
  • Proven experience in the management, mentoring and coaching of team professionals.
  • Ability to negotiate and resolve conflict.
  • Proven ability to meet time frames in a pressure environment
