- Support the implementation of each young person's case plan in collaboration with the House Manager and other stakeholders involved in the care of the young person.
- Engage with, develop and maintain effective communication and positive relationship with the young people in care to develop a positive mentoring relationship.
- Assist with the development of personal and living skills through encouragement and promotion of positive self-care, food, hygiene, and financial practices.
- Assist with the development of educational, vocational and social skills through encouraging participation in leisure, recreational, sporting and community activities.
- Provide assistance with and encourage the young person in care with their day to day activities.
- Establish an appropriate balance between the needs of a young person and the needs of the group.
- Assist each young person to effectively manage their own behaviour through self-awareness and strengths-based approach in line with Marist180 guidelines.
- Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours or incidents and ensuring the safety of young people at risk of harm.
- Maintain documentation and records as per Marist180 procedures, including completing accurate and timely reports, communications, timesheets, financial records.
- Contribute to a positive, safe and productive workplace, including reporting of safety concerns and ensuring house is safe and clean.
- Engage in reflective supervision with house manager and participate in learning/ development opportunities.
- Complete set house tasks assigned for effective house management and respond to reasonable directions from house manager and care team.
- Diploma in Youth Work, Community Services or similar.
- Experience working within a residential setting.
- Experience working with linguistically and culturally diverse communities.
- Knowledge of child protection and social services practices or policies.
- Demonstrated experience working with young people who have experienced complex trauma.
- The ability to work autonomously (under general supervision only) and contribute to an effective team environment.
- Sound computer, literacy & numeracy skills.
- High standard of professional ethical behaviour and sound understanding of boundary issues.
- Current and valid First Aid & CPR
- Working with Children Check.
- Clear National Criminal History Check.
- Unrestricted driver's licence (minimum Provisional 2 licence). If you have a foreign driver's licence, you are required by the NSW Government to obtain a NSW Driver's Licence by 1 March 2025.
