About the RoleThe School of Languages and Linguistics invites applications for a Lecturer to join the Italian Studies program, with a focus on pre-modern (14th-17th centuries) Italian literature, history and culture.The role will undertake both teaching and research in their discipline or related areas, contributing to undergraduate, honours and postgraduate education. With a track record of research resulting in high-quality publications, the incumbent will engage in research or professional activities relevant to their field, ensuring high-quality outputs through independent and collaborative efforts.The Lecturer will also handle administrative duties within the Faculty, including coordinating an award program if required.In the School of Languages and Linguistics, the Lecturer in Italian Studies will be expected to leverage their teaching expertise to create inclusive classroom experiences that cater to a diverse student body while fostering and supporting scholarly inquiry. The position will be responsible for supervision of postgraduate research students and participation in research training.Your responsibilities will include:
  • Preparation and delivery of lectures, tutorials, and seminars, including
  • Curriculum design and innovation, including cross-disciplinary approaches
  • Subject coordination including the supervision of sessional tutors
  • Administrative tasks associated with the subjects taught, including marking and assessment; team teaching, student consultation
  • Publications, including (but not limited to) peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, books, creative outputs and commissioned reports
  • Research grants and external research income (emphasis on competitive, international and peer-reviewed)
  • Active engagement in service, leadership and coordination roles in the discipline, School and Faculty demonstrating respectful, inclusive behaviours at all times and building trust amongst colleagues
Who We Are Looking ForWe are seeking a passionate educator, with a completed PhD in Italian, or a related discipline, with a preference for pre-modern (14th-17th centuries) Italian literature, history and culture.You will have a strong record in research with a developing research profile, with the ability and willingness to teach subjects at all levels from A1 to C2 of the CEFR in various modes.With a demonstrated ability to teach at undergraduate level, you are capable of ensuring a highly inclusive student learning environment for students, while also providing support to tutoring staff.You have strong organisational skills as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.You will also have:
  • Native or near-native competence in Italian and English
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment for excellence in teaching of Italian language and culture at tertiary level, with the ability and willingness to teach subjects at all levels from A1 to C2 of the CEFR in various modes
  • A strong record in research with a developing research profile, in particular in pre-modern (14th-17th centuries) Italian literature, history and culture
  • Capacity for multidisciplinary and collaborative research and for “Research that makes a difference” in line with the Faculty's research strategy, and demonstrable potential to attract research funding
