The Principal Project Engineering Manager is a technical leadership role for Ultra Maritime Australia responsible for the delivery of engineering programs. - Deliver the engineering program with respect to scope, cost and schedule including the management of technical risk and opportunities.
- Organise and task the technical execution team to meet the engineering program outcomes across multiple disciplines including Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Firmware Engineering, Hardware Engineering and Support Engineering.
- Develop and report on progress against the engineering program plan.
- Forecast engineering resource demands to meet engineering program outcomes.
- Lead, motivate and manage the technical execution team and review work undertaken by other professional engineers to ensure the integrity and intent is met.
- Manage technical execution resources through effective planning, training, development and assessment of staff performance.
- Completed a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Software Engineering (or equivalent).
- At least 15 years of experience with at least 5 years of demonstrated team leadership experience in product design, development and support engineering in the defence industry leading large, multi-discipline teams or departments.
- Experience in Defence design and development, preferably within the field of Electronic Warfare and/or Sonar.
- Working knowledge of a broad range of engineering functions (Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Firmware Engineering, Hardware Engineering and Support Engineering).
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) within the Institute of Engineers Australia or willingness to obtain (or equivalent).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to deliver technical information to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Ability to multi-task across a range of engineering activities.
- Proficiency in technical reporting with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to use sound problem solving techniques to provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems.
- Ability to make decisions with the information at hand.
- An Understanding of the whole project lifecycle, from bids and proposals through to in service support to inform engineering projects.
- Experience in customer relationship management including liaison and reporting.
- Experience using requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS), configuration management tools (e.g. Windchill) and enterprise resource planning tools (e.g. IFS).
- Experience in project scheduling, critical path analysis and earned value management reporting with an understanding of the outputs from project management and financial tools (e.g. Open Plan, Cobra, Pro Pricer).
