Overview:The Health Services Programs Branch is responsible for strategic program development and delivery for key health priorities within three key streams; planned, unplanned care and end of life care. The Branch has a health policy focus to drive better value health care that improves population health and patient experience and consolidates operational focus and crisis response as needed.The Manager, Voluntary Assisted Dying Operations is responsible for the management of the day-to-day mechanisms and services that support access to voluntary assisted dying in South Australia.Access to voluntary assisted dying will require compliance with the legislation, efficient management of services, communication and ensuring timely processes are maintained. To enable this, the Assisted Dying Operations team is responsible for:
  • supporting medical practitioners to meet their legal and regulatory requirements
  • managing medical practitioner registration and access to mandatory voluntary assisted dying training
  • managing medical practitioner access to the Voluntary Assisted Dying Clinical Portal
  • reviewing applications for a permit to administer the voluntary assisted dying substance to ensure compliance with the legislation prior to consideration from the Chief Executive, SA Health
  • providing high level policy advice, including Ministerial briefings and correspondence in relation to voluntary assisted dying
  • coordinating periodic review of the legislation
  • maintaining clinical guidelines and public facing information about voluntary assisted dying
  • managing communications and engagement with health professionals and the community
