The Major Projects Group of GHD is working with the Level Crossing Removal Project and North East Link Project, these being two major projects within Victoria's Big Build program. GHD as the Technical Advisor, is working across the projects from inception through construction to delivery.Who are we looking for?We have a 12-month fixed-term opportunity, with the possibility of extension, for a proactive and dynamic Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Advisor/Senior HSE Advisor who will play a critical role in overseeing and supporting our staff in the field and in the office from a Technical Advisory perspective. This role would suit someone who has previous experience in HSE systems for projects in the Rail, Roads, Construction and Principal Contractor industry.Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
  • Implement safety management systems for the TA in line with the General Principals of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and requirements
  • Coordination of the High-Risk Permit issuing to ensure safe compliant management of working in and around Underground and Overhead services & assets to also include other Project specific High-Risk permits.
  • Be accountable for coordination and issuing of High-Risk permits as defined in the TA High-Risk Work Permit Procedure
  • Plan schedule and undertake Audits of the Contractor Safety Management Systems
  • Lead Project Inductions as required and deliver safety training packages as directed
  • Comply with and positively affect the TA Project HSE culture and maintain the Project one team approach
  • Assist the Project Technical Director/Manager to continuously improve and manage the TA HSE Project systems and HSE training
  • Undertake HSE job reviews, audits, inspections and lead field HSE assurance activities as required
  • Independently perform work that requires knowledge of policies, instructions, systems, processes, procedures, KPI's, organisational structure
What would you bring to the team:
  • Recognised tertiary qualifications in a Health, Safety and Environment discipline, and experience in a similar role
  • Previous experience in HSE systems for projects in the Rail, Roads, Construction and Principal Contractor industry area would be well regarded
  • Interpretation and application of HSE legislation and statutory requirements, it would be advantageous to have an understanding of both the Victorian and national harmonised legislation.
  • HSE Auditor qualification would be an advantage
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to balance competing priorities
  • The ability to exercise sound judgement and decisiveness
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and presentation
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
