The Garvan Genomics Platform provides expertise in flow cytometry, single cell and spatial methodologies and genomic sequencing for both internal and external research groups. This includes identifying and implementing new technologies and protocols and working with Garvan research programs to implement large-scale genomics experiments.THE OPPORTUNITYThe Senior Project Coordinator role is responsible for organising and undertaking various project activities for internal and external customers within the Genomics Platform. This includes managing a Project Coordinator to effectively coordinate services and programs of work across the Platform. Core functions include stakeholder engagement, service quoting and project management. The incumbent will work closely with the Head of Genomics Platform to support the core business operation. This role will require you to be on site 5 days a week.Salary: Up to $90,000 + 11% super + salary packaging (dependent on experience)Employment Type: Full time permanentSNAPSHOT OF BENEFITSGenerous salary packaging to save you income tax on your wages thereby boosting your monthly take home pay (max. $15,900 general expenses + $2,650 meals/accom)Ample opportunities for on-going training and developmentStimulating, diverse and highly international research environmentFlexible work arrangements e.g. start / finish times18 weeks paid parental leave for both parents including paid superannuationA range of additional leave types to meet your personal needs including cultural leave, conference leave, community service and study leaveDiscounted Health InsuranceLifestyle discounts with our community partnersWHAT YOU WILL DOOperational and Strategic ManagementManage internal and external research enquiries for the Genomics Platform including working with researchers to scope workflows, provide quotes, coordinate submission of samples and subsequent data delivery and invoicing.Plan and undertake administration of organisational programs, special projects and support services.Actively follow up with genomic enquiries, identify potential strategic opportunities to support service growth at the Genomics Platform.Work closely with the Flow Cytometry, Cellular, Sequencing and R&D Leads to ensure effective and seamless service provision across the genomics landscape.Advise Head of Genomics Platform on matters requiring attention and implementing their decision.Prepare and review projects and reports concerning the Platform’s activities.Identify and escalate project inefficiencies, risks and issues to the appropriate member(s) of the project management team as appropriate and in a timely manner.Support general laboratory activities e.g., manage laboratory inventory and stocktake.Management and Development of StaffGuide and develop a high-performance work culture, aligned to Garvan’s values and focused on the achievement of the Platforms strategic plan.Coordinate the annual performance planning (goal setting) and review of direct reports’ performance and achievements, in consultation with the Head of Genomics Platform.Enhance individual and team effectiveness and efficiency through performance management and staff empowerment.Develop and maintain operating processes and procedures.Business PlanningProactively identify opportunities for change within the Platform that will help enhance its ability to meet strategic goals.Engagement, Collaboration & CommunicationRelationship Management - advise the Head of Genomics Platform regarding the operational and staffing matters for which they are responsible.Develop and maintain all relevant internal and external relationships to understand and meet the Platforms needs of stakeholder groups.ABOUT YOUFormal qualifications and experienceMinimum bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of science/medical research or equivalent experience in a cellular and / or genomics laboratory.At least 3 years of experience in a similar role across the areas of project planning, implementation and/or reporting.Ability to lead a high performing team.Demonstrated ability to manage and maintain client relationships.Ability to identify and assess human resources to create, initiate and track project plans.Excellent organisation and time management skills. Ability to use sound judgement to handle and prioritise a variety of tasks while adhering to timelines.Highly developed computer literacy skills and experience in Microsoft office suite and illustration software.Excellent written literacy skills to prepare various reports and other documentation (e.g. project report updates).Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate, scribe and actively participate in group meetings with senior members of the Genomics Platform and external professionals.Ability to work in a fast-pace, dynamic, challenging work environment and respond to shifting priorities.Experience in a CRM (preferably Salesforce) to manage customer interactions and quote to invoice process.High order critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative solutions.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in teams across an organisation to deliver shared goals.Applicants should demonstrate commitment to cultural diversity and ethical practice principles and demonstrate knowledge of equal employment opportunity and workplace health and safety, appropriate to the level of the appointment.Skills requiredStrong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skillsCapacity for carrying out duties under minimal supervisionAbility to prepare and present written reports and oral presentationsExcellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively with other team membersExcellent organisational and time management skillsABOUT GARVANThe Garvan Institute of Medical Research is an independent Medical Research Institute (MRI) in Sydney, delivering scientific and clinical impact on a global basis and in partnership with organisations that share our vision.
