About the opportunityThe are welcoming applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Agricultural Remote Sensing) to join the team and to work on SmartSat CRC and Grains Research & Development Corporation (GRDC) funded projects in Precision Agriculture in dryland cropping systems.The position is located with the Precision Agriculture Laboratory and will work with an innovative team led by and . The projects are in partnership with a commercial collaborator with the aim to use machine learning/AI approaches in combination with commercial multispectral and hyperspectral remote sensing platforms to perform within-field mapping of weeds and disease in grain cropping systems.The successful candidate will provide the opportunity to be part of a successful team building advanced, commercially useful data analysis algorithms and PA management tools while also fostering strong working relationships with a national network of stakeholders including growers, researchers, and commercial advisors.Your key responsibilities will be to:
  • liaise with project partners and stakeholders
  • develop and implement novel approaches for mapping weeds and disease using remote sensing
  • publish research in peer reviewed publications
  • manage the project to ensure the delivery of project milestones.

  • a PhD (or near completion) in remote sensing, precision agriculture, computer science or other quantitative disciplines
  • expertise in data-centric languages such as R and/or Python with a focus on machine learning/AI and/or statistical modelling
  • expertise in analysis of spatial data including remote sensing
  • a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • experience in managing projects involving multiple people and/or organisations.
