KJ is an innovative and award-winning Martu organisation that operates a variety of land management, cultural and social programs based out of Newman in Western Australia. We take pride in the work we do and are funded by the federal and WA Governments and key partners such as BHP.We are guided by Martu elders, who are some of the last Pujiman (desert-born people) in Australia with deep cultural and ecological knowledge. Martu are the traditional owners of a large tract of country spanning across three deserts and home to wild populations of some of Australia’s iconic fauna species.At KJ, we value individuals who are determined to make a difference, willing to work hard, enjoy working within a team and want to work in partnership with Martu as they realise their aspirations to look after Country, families and communities.We are looking for new ranger/community field coordinators to join our team. If you are interested in working with Martu rangers to look after country and culture and you enjoy working outdoors in remote locations, this may be the job for you.What you’ll be doingAs a ranger coordinator, you will work with a team of Martu rangers to achieve their aspiration of getting back to and looking after country, passing on knowledge and culture to younger generations, and making Martu communities sustainable for the long term. Your work will include:
  • Engaging and motivating the ranger team and ensuring that the program is vibrant and relevant to Martu priorities.
  • Taking an active community development approach in the planning and implementation of land management activities incorporating Martu traditional ecological knowledge with contemporary natural resource management (NRM) practice, cultural knowledge and other activities on-country and in the community.
  • Enabling on-country work involving both day trips and extended multi-night trips.
  • Providing leadership, mentoring and support for the Martu ranger team and broader Martu workforce seeking opportunities within the ranger program.

Physical RequirementsThis is a physically demanding role and not for the faint-hearted. It will require loading and unloading gear for extended trips on country, changing tyres, short hikes and weather extremes.We want to make sure that you will be up for the demands of the job so you will be required to undergo a medical examination before employment.What we offer
