OverviewElement has a current opening for a fixed term Chemist II at our Toronto location. This is a 12-Month fixed term position with opportunity to be hired on depending on performance and site needs at the time the contract ends.Responsibilities
  • Perform routine chemical and physical analysis on the full range of analytical samples in accordance with in-house methods, customer's method or compendia methods
  • Independently operate analytical instruments to generate data (primarily GC and GC-MS)
  • Acquire process and report chromatographic data using Agilent and Waters software
  • Conduct method development, method validation testing and analytical method transfer testing
  • Plan daily assignments in an organized way and complete projects in a timely manner
  • Maintain documentation, including lab notebooks, equipment log books and instrument raw data in accordance with applicable SOPs
  • Performed other duties as required by the Manager
  • Review ,evaluate and interpret analytical data ensuring that all work is done in accordance with applicable SOPs, protocols, methods and specifications. Prepare Certificates of Analysis, Reports of Analysis and Stability Reports. Initiate change controls to generate or update testing procedures
  • Review instrument verification logbooks and user logbooks
  • Maintain Reference standard database. Ensure that Reference standard is accompanied with current Certificate of Analysis. Arrange for disposal of expired reference standards
  • Order Lab consumables, chemicals, reagents and reference standards required for the stability studies and release testing
Skills / Qualifications
  • Fundamental knowledge of GC-MS, GC, HPLC
  • Background on LC-MS an asset
  • Experience with SOPs related to the analysis of the pharmaceuticals
  • B.Sc. in chemistry or related field, M.Sc., or Ph.D. preferred
  • Worked in GMP environment at least 2-5 years Strong knowledge of health and safety requirements for a chemical laboratory Good communication skills
