We are seeking up to nine medical Registrar PGY3 and above to work closely with Senior Medical Officers and House Officers to provide efficient and effective care for the people of Tairāwhiti.As a medical registrar, you will have the opportunity to develop your clinical skills in General Medicine in a supportive and team-orientated learning environment. As part of your inpatient duties, you will participate in medical admissions and management with an unselected medical take, giving you exposure to a wide range of medical presentations. You will have ample opportunities to develop skills in basic procedures including, paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar puncture, as well as critical care procedures including central lines, arterial lines and endotracheal intubation. Outpatients clinics can be tailored to your particular interest or focus on ward follow ups for continuity of care. Regular education sessions include journal club, M&M, Cardiology case reviews, simulation and clinical skills sessions.Our department consists of ten Physicians in General Medicine with a wide variety of sub-speciality interest and two intensivists, as well as an outpatient cardiology team, specialist nurses, and visiting sub-specialists. We are accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for Basic and Advanced Trainees.You will be based at Gisborne Hospital, a 115-bed secondary care centre serving the wide geographic area of the East Cape of New Zealand. With a full array of diagnostic facilities, including laboratory, X-Ray, CT, MRI, spirometry, and echocardiography. Our facility includes a 6-bed ICU/CCU with on-site intensivist SMO support and a Medical Day Unit for procedures and infusions. We work closely with our colleagues in Surgery, Orthopaedics, Anaesthetics, O&G, Radiology, Emergency and Paediatrics, and we get additional support from our referral centres in Hamilton Auckland and Wellington.Enjoy living by the beach, in one of the sunniest places in NZ.
