The Supervising Attorney will provide day-to-day management of discrete aspects of the ILS Program including case selection, case management oversight, and assistance with grant writing and reporting. The Supervising Attorney will also represent clients before local, state, and federal administrative offices such as the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS); Executive Office for Immigration Review, Baltimore Immigration Court (EOIR); and the U.S. Department of State (DOS).The Esperanza Center is a comprehensive resource center whose mission is to welcome immigrants by offering hope, compassionate services, and the power to improve their lives. Since 1963, immigrants from all over the world have trusted the Esperanza Center to help them navigate life in a new country. Our dedicated staff and volunteers provide services related to education, healthcare, immigration legal matters, family reunification, anti-trafficking, and general community support to thousands of immigrants each year.Schedule: Full time, Monday-FridayJOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Will provide day-to-day management of discrete aspects of the ILS Program including case selection, case management oversight, and assistance with grant writing and reporting.
  • Supervises Staff Attorneys, including regular performance check-ins, and other applicable personnel management responsibilities.
  • The Supervising Attorney ensures that the legal immigration software and legal client database are maintained, reports on client outcomes, and monitors Staff Attorney caseloads for the Managing Attorney.
  • As needed, the Supervising Attorney will also represent clients before local, state, and federal administrative offices such as the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS); Executive Office for Immigration Review, Baltimore Immigration Court (EOIR); and the U.S. Department of State (DOS).
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Law degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one State, U.S. Territory, or a Federal District Court.
  • Licensed to practice in Maryland or willing to become licensed in Maryland within 1 year of hire.
  • Two years of immigration law practice experience required.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
  • Excellent communication, analytic, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with clients from diverse cultures.
  • Prior supervisory experience a plus.
  • Ability to work in multiple locations.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age, with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience, and a valid driver's license issued by the state of residence. There can be no state issued restrictions on the licenses that would impede driver's ability to operate the vehicle as required by the Agency, and there must not be more than three (3) points on their driving record.
